Mark Recommends a Thing (#3)

He also gets angry.

In a recent appearance on Bret Weinstein’s DarkHorse Podcast, former Air Force Intelligence officer Jordan Karr and current Army physical therapist Major Grant Smith had a thoughtful and detailed discussion with Bret about the ongoing battle against COVID-19 vaccine mandates that is currently taking place throughout the U.S. armed services.

I don’t know Ms. Karr, but I’ve gotten to know a little about Grant Smith, author of The Radical American Mind here at Substack. Grant comes across to me as a man of reason, honor, courage, conviction and — perhaps above all else — principle. To be a man who would give his life in service of a noble principle might be the highest state of humanity that a person can hope to achieve. In one sense of the word, the unwavering dedication to such principles is what makes us “human” to begin with. The statement is at least arguable.

That Major Smith and I disagree about what else might factor into that equation is beside the point; he is undoubtedly a man I would follow into battle, for a variety of reasons. And both he, Ms. Karr, and many thousands of other service men and women are currently waging a pitched battle, not just for their lives and liberties but for our own.

Keep this in mind when you watch them speak. Observe their poise and calm demeanor, as they discuss what might turn out to be one of the most horrific betrayals by a government against its own soldiers ever committed. Listen to how charitable they are when Bret assigns the blame for this moral and legal catastrophe on something much more sinister than mere error. This is particularly true of Grant, an approach which I will critique in a moment — although, as you’ll see by the end of this piece, it isn’t actually a criticism worth listening to.

Now, contrast these two thoughtful, intelligent and respectful people with the demented sociopaths, howling loons and other fallen creatures who infest our civic institutions throughout the West.

While you’re at it, give yourself a look in the mirror. Take a long look. I did. And I didn’t much like what I saw, because I know I’m not doing enough to help them. I hope to change that soon.

Jordan Karr and Grant Smith are the sort of people that any nation should want as its protectors and healers. And as we speak, our militarily leaders and their corrupt paymasters are trying to drum them all out of the service.

Every last one of them.

Think about the implications of this for a moment, before you read on.

Now I will bare my teeth.

Amid all the shockingly obvious frauds and horrific crimes I’ve witnessed these past three years, this blanket betrayal of our armed forces may be the most infuriating and dangerous of all.

I’m no peddler of jingo, nor do I support every military action that our government — often blindly, arrogantly and stupidly — commits our forces to. But none of those opinions have anything to do with our service members themselves. If anything, most of my anger about certain operations stems from the callous way in which the psychopathic DC establishment seems to view these people’s lives, as though they were mere plastic pieces on some gigantic game board.

But at least in these cases, our politicians and their generals — or is it the other way around? — could hide behind the fig leaf of “defending our national interests”, however broadly and/or absurdly they define those in the moment.

But this.

This is something different.

I suppose you could say that about a lot of shit, lately. For example, science (or perhaps “The Science”) is different now, as it seemingly requires no data transparency, no independent replication, no honesty about methods or results, and no adherence to rigorous evidentiary standards or the rules of reasoned debate. Education is different, too, as it now seemingly involves the indoctrination of small children by a race-and-gender obsessed cult, and which seems to include among its motivations some of the darkest impulses imaginable. The same goes for politics, business, entertainment, public safety… it appears almost nothing has been left undamaged by a different kind of virus: a species that slowly murders not just individuals, but entire civilizations as it worms its way through minds and souls.

But when it comes to what is being done to the men and women of our military branches, all of these other problems seem both less dangerous and entirely more solvable by contrast. The reason is this: by instituting a culture of total and dehumanizing compliance, you eventually purge that culture of all but those individuals who are wildly unfit to serve its core mission. Such compliance cultures are of course evil and dangerous within every institutional context. But when the context is “the warrior class to whom society grants a monopoly on violence, in defense of constitutional order,” the danger swiftly become an existential threat.

This subject comes up during the DarkHorse discussion, and — despite the fact that the dangers of purging a standing army of all but the most servile psyches, unprincipled actors and unquestioning minds should be obvious to all but the most hypnotized of civilians — everyone manages to keep their cool. Unfortunately, there are plenty of those hypnosis victims to go around these days. Many of them like to yammer on about “Nazis”, flinging that word around like so much monkey shit. But the course our military leadership has put us on is precisely how you wind up with actual Nazis, Communists and other kinds of murderous military regimes.

With regards to this subject, I have sometimes heard the following argument (or some mutant variant of it) put forth:

What’s the problem?

After all, these people signed up to follow all kinds of orders that would put them in harm’s way. Risk is part of the deal, and that includes risking both life and limb.

Imagine for a moment the kind of person you would need to be, in order to unironically advance this argument. Once you drill past all the obvious moral, logical and legal fallacies — no, signing up for the military doesn’t give your commanders the right to do anything they want to you, and especially not to use you as a guinea pig for medical experiments — you will see that they aren’t really arguing the subject at hand. The same goes for those who say, “If they don’t like it, they should quit,” without for one moment considering how less-than-honorable discharges might haunt these men and women for the rest of their personal and professional lives.

I find their moral reasoning (or lack thereof) quite revolting. Nevertheless, I try to forgive these people. They are usually trying to win some different argument in the shadows, perhaps about medicine or politics. They are confused, which is why I don’t treat them with the blood-boiling anger or contempt I often want to. After all, there’s a chance they can become unconfused, at some later date. I will only say this: if you find yourself persisting in making these arguments, maybe take a look in that mirror I mentioned earlier.

I can’t say the same for the authors of these ethically and scientifically deranged policies, those evil wizards hiding behind the curtains of the MIMIC. For them I offer nothing but hostility. They constitute the most vile and toxic trash of the human race, the kind of psychopaths who see everyone and everything in their purview as mere tools of their own aggrandizement and graft.

There’s not enough venom in every cobra on Earth to describe the viciousness and ugliness of this crowd. If anyone will rot in Hell, it will be them. They are the enemy in our midst. The call is coming from inside the house. Do not answer it. Never comply, because the long term costs of such compliance have built up quite the horrifying track record across human history.

To revisit the DH podcast for a moment, I confess to feeling somewhat ashamed watching these three people speak. I don’t think I could contain my rage in such a format. I’d likely curse and rant and yell myself hoarse, damaging my cause as a result. That’s probably one of the main reasons why I’m NOT the sort of man you’d want as a protector or healer, or guarding that wall.

And that is where my so-called “criticism:” of Grant and Jordan becomes an obsolete joke. Who am I to tell these brave people how to fight this battle? At best, I could only serve in some logistical support role. I hope my words here constitute some small measure of that. I resolve to do much more.

In that spirit, let me redirect you to Grant’s Substack. I’ve only scratched the surface of his work over the past several weeks, and his interview has prompted me to explore it in much more earnest depth. His superb gifts for public speaking are matched by his skill with the pen (and, I’d imagine, the sword as well). Moreover, I’ve come to find that this man’s ideas matter to me, including those I disagree with.
